# Multiple brand name variations appearing in tracking

> Fix fragmented brand visibility data when AI platforms refer to your brand by different names, abbreviations, or stylisations in Klove tracking reports.

Klove tracks your brand's visibility by detecting mentions of your brand name inside AI-generated responses. When AI assistants refer to your brand inconsistently — using abbreviations, different capitalisations, legal suffixes, or informal shorthand — those alternate forms may not be picked up as mentions of your brand. The result is fragmented share-of-voice data that understates your actual AI presence.

This page explains the problem, how to spot it in your reports, and how to fix it by adding brand name variations in Klove settings.

***

## The problem: inconsistent brand naming in AI responses

AI assistants do not always refer to brands the same way every time. Common sources of variation include:

* **Legal suffixes** — AI may say *Acme* in one response and *Acme Ltd* or *Acme Corporation* in another.
* **Abbreviations** — A company named *Global Retail Solutions* might be referred to as *GRS*.
* **Capitalisation differences** — *HubSpot*, *Hubspot*, and *HUBSPOT* are all different strings.
* **Domain-style references** — AI sometimes references brands as `acme.com` rather than *Acme*.
* **Informal names** — Products or brands with common shorthand (e.g., *Salesforce* → *SF*, *Adobe Photoshop* → *Photoshop*).

If Klove is only matching on your primary brand name, any response that uses one of these alternate forms will not be counted as a mention of your brand. This means your **visibility score** will be lower than it should be, and your **share-of-voice** data will be split across multiple unrecognised entities.

## How to spot the problem in your reports

Before adding aliases, it is worth confirming which variations are actually appearing in your data.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Prompt Monitoring">
    Navigate to **Prompt Monitoring** in the Klove sidebar and select any prompt that is relevant to your brand.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Switch to the raw results view">
    Inside the prompt detail view, look for the **Raw Response** or **Full Answer** panel. This shows the complete AI-generated text that Klove captured during monitoring.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search for unexpected name forms">
    Read through recent raw responses and look for references to your company that use a different form than your primary brand name. Note down every variation you find — even minor differences like punctuation or spacing can cause a mismatch.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check your share-of-voice breakdown">
    In the **Competitive Intelligence** view, scan the entity list for any unfamiliar entries that look like they could be your brand under a different name. If you see *Acme Corp* and *Acme* listed separately, they are being tracked as different entities.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## The fix: add brand name variations as aliases

Once you have identified the alternate forms your brand is referred to by, add them all as aliases in Klove's brand settings.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to brand settings">
    In the Klove dashboard, click your workspace name or navigate to **Settings → Brand**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the Brand Name Variations field">
    Under **Brand Name**, you will see a **Brand Name Variations** (or **Aliases**) field below your primary brand name input.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add each variation">
    Enter each alternate form of your brand name as a separate alias. Common variations to consider adding:

    * Shortened names (`Acme` if your full name is `Acme Corporation`)
    * Legal suffixes (`Acme Ltd`, `Acme Inc`, `Acme Corp`)
    * All-caps or all-lowercase versions (`ACME`, `acme`)
    * Domain forms (`acme.com`)
    * Product names that AI frequently uses to refer to your company
    * Informal abbreviations or acronyms
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save your settings">
    Click **Save**. Klove will begin applying the new aliases to future monitoring runs and will retrospectively re-evaluate recent results where possible.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review your visibility score after the next monitoring run">
    After the next daily monitoring run completes, check your **visibility score** and **share-of-voice** data. You should see these metrics consolidate as mentions that were previously unmatched are now correctly attributed to your brand.
  </Step>
</Steps>

***

## What to expect after adding aliases

* **Visibility score** — May increase as previously unmatched mentions are now counted.
* **Share of voice** — Your percentage should increase relative to competitors, and you may no longer see phantom entities in the breakdown.
* **Sentiment data** — More responses will contribute to your sentiment analysis, giving you a more accurate picture of how AI talks about your brand.

<Note>
  Aliases are case-insensitive in matching. You do not need to add both `acme` and `Acme` — adding one covers all capitalisation variants. However, if the structure differs (e.g., `Acme Corp` vs `Acme Corporation`), you should add both.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Revisit your raw results every few weeks, especially after launching new products or rebranding. AI models update their training data and can start referring to your brand in new ways over time.
